The broken leg

The title of this one is self explanatory and many of you may already know this, but I thought I would share some pictures.

Yesterday, 1/4/2010, Kathy and Kara were at the park. Kara wanted to go down this big steep slide and Kathy told her no. She was going to do it anyway, so Kathy climbed up to the top of the slide and took her down a less intimidating slide together. Kara was kicking and screaming the whole way down and when they got to the bottom of the slide, Kara managed to get her foot stuck under Kathy and it bent backwards. Kathy thought she was just mad but quickly realized that something was wrong because she just wanted to be held and wouldn't put any weight on her leg.

Kathy called her pediatrician and then took her to the urgent care clinic. They took some X-rays and it turned out she had a mid-tibia fracture.

We then made our way over to Dell Children's Hospital to the ER so they could put a cast on it. Luckily for us, it was a really efficient and fast visit. After some talks with nurses explaining how she got hurt, talking with a social worker about how Kathy abuses Kara, and getting a temporary cast, we were out of there in 1.5 hours. It was surprisingly fast for an ER, we were impressed. Other than the first waiting room experience which was a germ infested cesspool, Dell Children's did a good job.

Tomorrow, Kara goes in for her real cast. We're not sure how long she'll have to wear it, but I'm sure it's not going to be a fun experience. I'll keep ya updated!

Greenbelt hike

Last weekend, we all went for a little hike on the greenbelt. "Somebody" (ahhemm Kathy) ended up calling it a death march, but she's never really been on a real death march :-). Anyway, here are a few of the shots from the weekend hike - it was a beautiful day.

Big shoes

Lately, Kara has been trying to wear Kathy and I's shoes. It's pretty cute because she tries to walk around in them and does a pretty good job. Here she is wearing my shoes. Enjoy! :-)

Snails, Giraffes, No Cast - Oh My!

We got some much needed rain this past weekend which everyone in Austin was very excited to see. For some reason, at our house every time it rains, tons of snails come out of the ground. They are all over the sidewalk and driveway and Kathy even spotted them hanging on the side of the house (tons of them!). Kara had fun with the snails but she liked to squish them despite us trying to save them. Sometimes she was gentle, but you know how that can go.

Grandma Rita came and visited this past week as well. She was only her for an evening, but she of course got Kara a present which she loves. So here she is enjoy a snack on her new Giraffe rug.

In other family news, the pink cast is gone. Kathy was ecstatic about that and now she's only in a brace. I think the wrist has been a bit more sore since being in a brace but Kathy is just happy to be able to move her arm again. A few more weeks in this brace and she should be back to normal.

Kara's car wash

Here's Kara's first attempt at washing the Tahoe. She did a pretty good job, she would grab her little rag and rub it on the bumper. It was kind of funny because she would always go back to the same exact spot and put the bubbles on the car and wipe it.

Random Pictures

Here are some random pictures of the girls that I thought people would enjoy. Kara is definitely growing up fast and picking up words fast!

New Car

Mom wants to see the new car but apparently a JPEG won't open on the computer at their house.....so here's some pics of the car.

I've only had it for 3 days now but it's been a lot of fun to drive. Somehow I've already managed to put over 100 miles on it and I don't ever drive anywhere!

Kara didn't like it all that much at first, but I think she's getting use to riding in it. I don't know if it was because it was lower to the ground or maybe my seat is closer to her feet - either way, she'll just have to cope because I'm not getting rid of it :-).
